Third Week!!

WELL!! This week I've been pretty busy, so I'm only doing two featured ladies in the industry. The two ladies this week are : Ann Nocenti and Marie Severin! If your not use to the layout of the blog yet then I will just direct you to the right side of the page where you can see more info on them :) I feature the super heroine in this blog and I have a link at the bottom of the page if you want to see older posts and what you missed last week.

SO!! The super lady of the week is.......SUPERGIRL! Thats right, this week we are focusing on the the girl of steel! Supergirl was one of the first females in comics other than WonderWoman that many girls were able to relate to. Even to this day she is a relateable character for female readers. She isn't just a girl in a mini skirt, but shes a powerhouse. Her origins are all over the place if you look back over her history in comics since her first appearance in 1959. But whether her name is Linda Davers, Matrix, or just Kara Zor-El, this character is a strong female character. She is Superman's cousin and has been said to be just as strong or even stronger, she acts as a great counterpart to the big boy in blue in comics. When I first started to really get into collecting and reading, I found that Supergirl was a character who I could relate too. If you want to start reading more about her I can suggest a great starting place: Superman/Batman: Supergirl, written by Jeph Loeb, drawn by Michael Turner and colours by Peter Steigerwald.

Ann Nocenti- Writer, Editor

Ann Nocenti has worked as an editor and writer for Marvel Comics. She has helped to edit Uncanny X-men, but also to help create new characters such as: Longshot, and Mojo. The first superhero comic series she wrote was Spiderwoman in 1982, writing issues 47-50. I actually own issue number 49 and I do like her writing style and storyline, I would suggest it :)

Marie Severin-Penciler, Colorist and Inker

"Calling Marie the best woman artist in the business is an injustice. Marie was one of the best artists in the business, period"-Stan Lee. Marie is well known for her sweet personality and her work in the industry during the 1950's into the 60's. She worked for EC Comics and Marvel Comics, doing the art for Hulk, X-men, Not Brand Ecch and many other well known series.

Third Week- 5 Photo Project

Hey :) Just thought I would let you know that I had to do a project for my Timebased Art Class for this blog. Meaning that I had to take 5 pictures concerning the theme of my blog, using photoshop and such. Second Week

Jo Duffy-Editor, Writer
Jo Duffy is a gifted comic book editor and writer. She has worked for both Marvel and DC, working on well known series as: Wolverine, Powerman and Iron Fist, Conan the Barbarian, and her 14 issue mini series of Catwoman in 1993.




















Karen Berger-Editor
Karen Berger is known for being the Executive Editor of DC'cs Vertigo comics. She has helped to edit and get the ball rolling with many acclaimed comics including: The Sandman, Swamp Thing, and House of Mystery. Without Karen's hard work and success in comics DC may have never created Vertigo comics in 1993.

Pia Guerra- Illustrator
Have you ever read Y the Last Man? Well you should! Pia's art is not only amazing in it but she helped to create this amazing series. Her art can also be seen in Buffy, Angel and Doctor Who comics.

Second week!! Woot....woot!

I'm actually getting pretty stoked about this blog! Hope all is well for any passing viewers. If your new to the site, well, welcome! Its easy to get acquainted, there is a link at bottom of the blog that will connect you to last weeks ladies, and the 3 talented women in comics we are focusing on this week are to your right and I post the the super heroine, well..here!
The three ladies in the industry who I am focusing on this week are: Jo Duffy, Karen Berger, and Pia Guerra.

**On a quick note, I just wanted to say that I am currently on the 9th trade of Y the Last Man, and seriously it amazing, if you haven't yet been lucky enough to read it you should try to pick it up!


ALRIGHTY! To the point, which I tend to get a little side tracked at times from. Drum roll please.....and the Super Heroine of the week is.......THE WOMEN OF Y THE LAST MAN! (I know, I know, I sound a little crazed this week!). Like Snow White who I focused on last week, the women of Y the Last Man are not your everyday superhero. Y the Last Man is about...actually I'll butcher it, here's vertigo's explanation, "Written by Brian K. Vaughan (Lost, PRIDE OF BAGHDAD, EX MACHINA) and with art by Pia Guerra, this is the saga of Yorick Brown—the only male survivor of a planet-wide plague that instantly kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. Accompanied by a mysterious government agent, a brilliant young geneticist and his pet monkey, Ampersand, Yorick travels the world in search of his lost love and the answer to why he'sthe last man on earth." All the women in this series have had to deal with great loss, and even though many women in the series turned to gangs, they kept living. The two ladies in particular who I see as examples of powerful females in this comics are the characters Dr.Mann and Agent 355. But I've gone on way to long, I'll try to keep the posts shorter from now on.

Dorothy Roubicek-Comic Creator and DC Editor
Dorothy was the first female DC Editor in 1948, known for being one of the earliest pioneering woman within the industry. She also helped to create the idea of Kryptonite.























AND!! The heroine that we will be looking at this week is.......SNOW WHITE!

Ok...well maybe it might be hard to classify her as a superhero, but there is no debate that she is a powerful female figure within comics. From the pages of Fables characters like: Prince Charming, Goldilocks, The Big bad Wolf (Bigby) and many of the lesser known fables come to life. This story told by Bill Wilingham is about these Fable Characters who have been run out of their lands to our mundane world. They live in secrecacy and cannot let us mortal 'mundys' know of their pressance. Snow White is a powerful woman in the comics, acting as the deputy major in Fabletown. She is known for being a leader and one of the main focal points of the comics. So heres to Snow White! Fables is one of my favourite ongoing series, and I would suggest it to anyone.
